What Are the Core Rules of 13-Card Indian Rummy?

In 13-card Indian Rummy, each player must arrange 13 dealt cards into valid sequences and sets. To make a valid declaration, a player must create at least two sequences, one of which must be a "Pure Sequence" formed without using any wild joker cards.

The Mandatory Melds for a Valid Show

  1. At Least One Pure Sequence: Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit without a joker (e.g. 5♠-6♠-7♠). This is mandatory—without it, all other cards count as penalty points!
  2. Second Sequence (Pure or Impure): A second run of 3 or more consecutive cards. It may include printed or wild jokers (e.g. 9♥-10♥-Joker).
  3. Remaining Cards in Sets or Sequences: The rest of the 13 cards must be arranged in valid runs or sets (3 or 4 cards of identical rank across different suits, e.g. 8♠-8♥-8♦).
